Waking up to the sunshine in your face because you slept with the curtains drawn. Waking up to the cool breeze of the early morning. Waking up to a little drizzle trickling from your window. Waking up to baby giggling. Waking up to the smell of warm toasts & eggs. These are things you wouldn't mind "waking up" to.
But waking up to a text message telling you a friend is dead is one of the most unpleasant things.
How could your day go well after something like that? How could you smile with passersby? How could you laugh at a joke? How could you go about your normal routines without everything reminding you of that person? Even if everything in your normal routine never did remind you of that person before. How could you not zone out, feel like you're completely shutting out the world?
It's getting ridiculous. It WAS ridiculous a long time ago. We've been hearing it... sadly EVERYDAY. Someone's been shot, someone's been robbed. EVERYDAY in BELIZE. EVERYDAY we hear it. And even though it's so... it DOES really hit you when it's someone you know.. someone you knew... someone you grew up around.. someone that... no matter what... {personally} greeting you with a huge hug, every time you saw him, he made you smile. HE made you smile.. like it was his mission... EVERY TIME.
A GREAT TEACHER, A MENTOR, AN ATHLETE, A ROLE MODEL TO MANY.
Imagining the ordeal his family is facing. The many unanswered questions that starts with.. the Who's, the Why's, the What's, the How's? My deepest condolences goes out the the Lopez Family.
Rest In Peace - Aubrey Lopez

Very well put together Meghann.
ReplyDeleteMy most sincere sympathies to the Lopez family as well. I met Aubrey in high school in the early nineties.
I hope that this case is resolved and does not drop through the cracks in our justice system. Time to demand justice or take it upon our hands. Start hanging so that criminals know its a serious crime to kill. Government take action now or the people will!
My deepest condolensces to the Lopez family and friends of a very special individual. I sat and watched Aubrey play basketball all day Sunday at the Bird's Isle...setting an example and supporting the appeals for peace. The tournament was organized by B. Brennan in lieu of the death of the Brennan Brothers four years ago. This is so sad to know - that another very young and motivated young man has lost his life while trying to promote peace and encourage other young men to uplift themselves in a senseless community where no Leader has tried to evaluate the streets and make serious changes to save our young people from falling daily. Please help us Prime Minister, Policemen and the Church. Please help us Dear Lord to overcome this phase in our community.
